It’s that sense of camaraderie that’s incredible.Įvery year, (Alan and I) wanna make it bigger and better. You can walk into any club in Connecticut that has metal and you’ll know 85-90% of the people. Looking back then and seeing it now from being inside the scene, it’s a community. They’ll help you out, they’ll stick their neck out for you, and they did for us… One of the first groups I got in contact with was Shallow Ground because Agrippa93 did a show (with them) at the Webster - and if you ever wanna get friendly with a band, that’s the band to do it with. When I first doing shows and started networking with people, I didn’t know a lot of people. Then Cynthia moved down south and said, “Y’know what? Metal Cyndicate of Connecticut is yours.” And it branched off from there! Agrippa, right, with Tim Smith from Shallow Ground. So I started to build a website, and I’m thinking to myself, “This needs to be more than just videos.” What would I want in a website like this? I would want a list of Connecticut metal bands, their contacts, samples of their music… So that’s where it started, and then I started to write some articles. I was working with Cynthia and she said, “Would you be able to make us a website to host all our videos on?” And I said, “Sure, I could do that.” Agrippa93, which is my band, we were on there I think three times and I noticed that they didn’t really have a website.
METAL CYNDICATE TV
It was a public access TV show for one hour a week, they’d have bands come on and they’d play live… It was a great opportunity for local bands. (Metal Cyndicate) started in 2010 or maybe a little bit earlier with Cynthia Freeman and at the time, her husband, they started this thing called Metal Cyndicate TV. Check out what Agrippa has to say about that show and much more: One such concert is coming up - Diversity Metal Festat City Limits (Waterbury/Thomaston line) on Saturday, September 5th. He and Alan Selavka host weekly podcasts with local bands, photograph shows, and even book the occasional concert to showcase what our state’s musicians have to offer. What began as a public access TV show has, through Agrippa’s dedicated shaping, grown into a huge presence in the Connecticut metal scene. It’s a good end to this album, which may be of interest to those who dig classic 80’s metal or modern Hard Rock.Alternative Control closed our week of interviews by chatting with Agrippa, one of the founders of the Metal Cyndicate of Connecticut. Last is the title track, Into the Flames, featuring melancholy guitars with a phaser effect and a strong chorus.

Freak Like Me and Back Against the Wall continue this string of great songs. In the Absence of Light is this record’s Kashmir, a true epic (and with a similar ascending guitar pattern).

Do You Believe has a Soundgarden vibe in spots, and succeeds much better at incorporating pop elements like “Na Na”s and “Woah”s into a metal song. If not for that, the song would be a highlight of the record. Dust of Angels is emotional and heavy, though once again the faux-uplifting chorus lets it down a bit and feels out of place. The heavy verses and poppy choruses on Miss Behave clash a bit, but the breakdown section has a gnarly riff and drum groove that help elevate the song. Some may find it cheesy, but I can admire the emotion that was obviously poured into its creation, and some of the vocal melodies are catchy as all hell. Next on Into the Flames is the atmospheric ballad Shadow of My Love. Ghost would be proud!īrave Enough sounds accessible and hooky enough to appear on rock radio without feeling like it is pandering to a mainstream audience. The band blends the sounds of retro and modern Hard Rock on Count to Zero. It’s an interesting mix, and it works well to provide the listener with something fresh and unpredictable. These can all be found on the first song Forsaken, with its catchy vocals, chugging guitars, and melodic piano arrangements. The band draws on many different genres for this album, including Power Metal, Djent, and Symphonic Metal. Genre: Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Melodic Metal.įFO: Black Sabbath, Dio, Europe, Alter Bridge.įollowing 2020’s Last Days of Eden, Into the Flames is the third record for Swedish band SOLE SYNDICATE.
